A reflection of Ohio canal history  [Next]

Prosperity along the Miami and Erie Canal varied both with individuals and communities.

Complete disintegration occurred to some canal communities which reverted back to farm fields such as those next to  Lock 19 at Bloomlock Road and Lock 14.

Some communities with little growth, such as Fort Loramie, still have canal era architecture readily apparent.

Communities such as New Bremen had major expansion during the days of the canal, but modest growth since then.  Yet a significant percent of canal era buildings still visible.

Communities that continued transportation development that had multiple rail systems such as Delphos and St. Marys s continued to see major expansion.  Their canal era is architecture less noticeable at first glance.
